How to finish render in a bell mouth drip?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.42 PM

I have recently had a survey back about the property I am moving to. It states that the external cement render is continuous with ground levels, which is obviously incorrect and may be the cause of some high damp readings. He suggested cutting the render back by 100mm and finishing it with a bell mouth drip. I am a fairly good DIY-er and would like to undertake this work myself to save money. I have a vague idea but this is something I've never done before, so can anyone please advise me on the process of creating the bell mouth drip? Thanks.

Cut the render back, just above dpc level. You can get bell cast beads from the builders merchants, or Wickes. Basically when you see them, they are self explanatory, they have a mesh type back which you nail to the wall, render via scratch coat with water proofer then float coat, the render slopes out to the bottom edge, therefore throws water clear of underlying dpc and brickwork.
