Can I fit a UPVC door the wrong way round?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.20 PM

I'm attempting to refurbish the coal shed of my new house into more of a mini workshop area. I've been given a second hand UPVC door, but in my haste to accept it I stupidly didn't realise that the door opens inwards. This isn't great as the coal shed isn't massive. My question is, can I just fit the door the opposite way around (ie. with hinges on the exterior). I'm planning on fitting a canopy above the door to give it some rain protection, but obviously the door won't be reccessed and might still get damp. How will this effect the door / hinges. Will damp be an issue inside? Is the door more likely to rot etc? Thanks!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If security is not an issue for yourself then you can put the door in the way you have described and if the cover your going to construct covers the door well enough then rain shouldn't be a problem but obviously after some time the seals on the door will perish after the weather changes and the slight amount of water it will be in contact with. Hope this helps. Lee.
