Order of work to be carried out
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.20 PM
In what order should each of the following work be carried out to a living room: plastering one wall, painting all the walls (but not ceiling) in the room, re-attaching existing skirtings and covings/ constructing and attaching new skirtings and covings to one wall, laying and fitting of new underlay and carpet in the room?

Hi,
The ideal order of works would be the plastering first, allowing to completely dry out before fitting the coving.
All new plaster then must be mist coated using a diluted matt emulsion to soak into the plaster as a primer.
I would then fit existing skirting boards along with new, priming all bare new timber
All final paintwork can now be completed, allowing the finished gloss/eggshell to harden for a few days before the underlay and carpets go back down.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Ashley

hi. personally i would re attach existing skirts. install coving, and new skirting. mist coat all new plastered wall areas and prime all bare (new) timber. fill all gaps, holes where screws / nails attach new and existing skirts and caulk up. then undercoat all woodwork, paint all coving and wall areas. finally, re undercoat and then finish all woodwork, de-nibbing and dusting between coats. finally refitting the floor coverings.
