How to rectify spot patches on Indian sandstone flags

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.20 PM

I recently had an Indian sandstone patio laid and now some 2 months later, I have noticed spot patches on some of the flags. Presumably this is due to spot/dab laying? Is there anyway to rectify it or does it entail taking the affected slabs up and relaying? Will all the slabs eventually have spot patches on? I have noticed that the spots only appear when the weather has been dry for a few days and they disappear when it rains or shortly after.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Wait that dry then seal The paving The surface to be sealed MUST BE DRY. Moisture on the surface, within the joints or even a bit of damp within the paving itself can cause some sealants to turn 'milky', effectively ruining the finished appearance. Those sealants sold as suitable for all surfaces (the jack-of-all-trades) tend to be more prone to this than some of the higher-end quality products.

What colour are the spot patches? If you think they are due to the mortar below staining the slab, then the problem is that NO porous stone slabs such as Indian P should be laid without first sealing the underside of the slabs, this is the proper way to lay them then that stops them being porous and absorbing the mix below...was this done? If not then nothing you can do...too late
