Ive painted my walls white and theres a dark patch
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.54 PM
Ive painted my walls white and theres a dark patch running all along the bottom of my walls above the skirting. Probably 3 inches thick. I ran mastic along the top of the skirting, maybe its something to do with that, I've repainted twice but doesn't change the dark patch. how do i get rid?

NEVER use mastic indoors it's for sealing windows & doors outside. Decorators caulk is for interior filling around the skiring & door facings. If you have dark patches might I suggest you seek advice on rising damp. After this has been cured Stain Blocker can be used to seal in the stain marks before repainting.

It's the oil from the Mastik. You should have used caulk. I'd suggest cutting it out as best you can,use a Stanley knife and wd40 which breaks the oil down. Then I'd use a stain block or oil based gloss to cover the stain. Then repaint.

I would check what is causing the damp patches and get this sorted before repainting, as others have suggested use caulk inside, once you have found what is causing the patches paint with a quality stain block before you paint the walls again
