Should a dry fix roof just be plastic brackets over existing ridge tiles?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.20 PM

I have employed a roofer to reridge my roof and was advised that the best method was dry ridge. After completing the job I found that he has only put brackets on the existing ridge tiles (which haven't been replaced), but assures me this is fine and weatherproof as he has screwed the brackets into extended baton and places weatherproof mat underneath. Can someone advise please as another roofer has said it should either all be replaced to plastic or not bracketed and just cemented.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Type dry ridge system into goole and look at images there are plenty of examples of what Atlas construction has refered to. if your roofer has replaced the tiles with a proper dry ridge system then it will be water tight.

Hi, it's a dry ridge or cement mortar joints, you cannot mix and match. A dry ridge has a sticky waterproof layer that goes underneath the tiles and then brackets are screwed to the top baton. To do this all ridge tile need to be removed and surface cleaned first prior to laying the waterproof mat. As long as this may is down and the ridge tiles are secure then it's fine. The easiest way to check for the mat is to look for daylight in your attic where the ridge tiles are.
