Upvc door latches not releasing

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.20 PM

The latching mechanism is not releasing in the bottom half of the door. How can I get the door open to replace the mechanism as the door handle was damaged by vandals

Hi Chris, For mechanism issues it really is best to get a locksmith, if you intend to try yourself here are some tips. From inside, remove handles, test mechanism latch. Provided it doesn't work, make a gap between the door and frame and cut the bolts with a disk from indoors. If you have no space for a disk, hammering the bolt back into the mechanism with a Hammer and large flat head screwdriver is slow work, but will work if hit in the right spot. Hope this helps.

Don't try grinding from indoors! The overlap on the door will be in the way. Always work from outside. Airbags and door spreader will open this in no time.
