Removal of artex

It can contain asbestos so it is not advisable to disturb the artex overboard ceiling or reskim the ceiling if it is in good condition is the best option

Anything after 1985; asbestos was stopped being used, so you're ok. You can scrape back the ceiling removing the high spots and skim as normal. I would advise covering the room floor (sealing at the door) in plastic and wear a suitable dust mask though. It's not dangerous, but will be extremely dusty.

Hi This is a possibility, However you can re board the ceiling and skim with plaster. Removing artex is a messy job and should asbestos be be present its a specialist task, as in the disposal of debris. Its not accepted in local refuse sites. Best to board over the top and start again. If you plaster over artex, the weight of the plaster will pull the whole lot down within a few days. Do it once do it right and stay safe. Best advice

Hi I would advise over boarding the artex ceiling using 12.5 mm plaster board and once joist have been found normally they are 400mm apart, fix with 60mm drywall screws. make sure screws are screwed up flush with the White side of the board the. Scrim joints and skim job done

hi you can clear the room put whats known as a flap on the door and 800 grade plastic sheet on the floor room sealed then put a face mask on known as a piggy white overalls scrap ceiling and plaster over the artex and there should be no asbestos in it. I did plastering for asbestos firm for 3 years any more advice let me know hope this helps

If the ceiling is in good condition (no cracks showing through the artex) then a reskim will be the best soulution. The over board soulution isn't my preferred method as the weight of the current ceiling + Plasterboard + skim puts a lot of weight onto the joists. Final solution is bring the whole ceiling down de-nail & Plasterboard the ceiling then skim. (Whilst ceiling is down I promote insulation be put up to bolster the houses insulation. Not nessercary but for the Cost of an extra few pounds would save in gas/electric in the long run) Dave (DL plastering)
