We are currently decorating the living room and noticed there is a corner where the plaster was soft underneath and small sections (around 6-8 inches) was coming out. The corner is located at the rear of the room and next to the patio doors. The breeze block beneath it is solid from having a touch. Not sure what is the cause it may be rising damp or condensation, but requires a professionals advice. Job has been posted, but not sure I am asking the right skills https://www.mybuilder.com/myjobs/job/1833539/view

If the plaster is soft it sounds more like rising damp. When damp rises it brings with it ground salts, it is these salts that push internal plaster off the wall. Need to inject and replace plasterwork.

could also be the seal around the patio door that is failing, would check for water ingress outside first before assuming its rising damp. rising damp is misdiagnosed in over 75% of cases.
good luck Alex

I agree with ADR I'd definitely check door seal first. It could be coming from that. It could also be condensation is it ventilated? These are things you should look at before assuming rising damp
