Wall knock-through (kitchen diner) - use a company with combined trades?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.02 PM

Hi, I'm looking at doing a knock-through of a load-bearing (single brick) wall (which goes perpendicular to the floorboards above). The wall contains a radiator and electrical socket which I'll need to get moved, as well as moving some copper pipes to the upstairs. My research tells me that I'll need a structural engineer (calculations for RSJ), builder, electrician and plumber (and a plasterer at the end). As I imagine it would be difficult to co-ordinate all the different tradespeople to work together in a short time-frame (I'm hoping to get the job done fairly quickly, if possible), is it common for people have similar projects done to use companies with combined trades? And are these typically more expensive than if you arrange the different tradespeople yourself?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi You should be able to find a small builder to undertake most of the trades you require apart from the heating and electrical works. It is no cheaper or more expensive to do this way, it the best way to get the works done in a shortish time frame with one point of responsibility.
