New toilet seat still coming loose

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

I recently replaced my old soft close toilet seat with a brand new (and expensive) one. On the old seat, the left hand fixing kept coming loose so the seat would slide around. I thought the issue would be fixed with this new seat, especially as the fixings looked much sturdier on the new one, however the same thing has started happening again, and everytime I re-screw it in, it comes loose again a few days later. Is there any way of stopping this happening? I'm not sure whether the left hole in the porcelain bowl is slightly wider than the right hand one or something, or whether pouring a load of glue down there would help hold it more securely?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, you could try adding a nut from the old toilet seat to create a locknut.

WC seat hinges are notoriously troublesome, even with expensive seats sometimes. It just rubbish design fixings usually but the ones I prefer are lay flat plastic ones which hold with a heavy nylon bolt & a sticky pad underneath. Then there's a cover that snaps over. They are usually well priced & the fixings stay firm, but you must make sure the area is spotlessly clean & free of grease. Other good fittings are ones which expand in the holes as well as some of the designer types but you are starting to spend more money there. You don't have to spend a fortune for a good functional WC seat. About £30 & it'll last you for years. I hope that helps.
