Advice of redecorating previously painted rendered wall
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.53 PM
Hi. My house is 20 years old. The front, upper elevation is rendered and painted. Approx 6 years ago the rendered area was repainted using masonry paint (weathershield I think). Large areas of the paint are bubbling, lifting and flaking away. The previous layer of paint is visible and this still appears sound. Do you have any advice on the best way to prepare the rendered area for redecoration (eg remove flaked paint, prime?, what would be suitable?, number of coats to apply for exterior paint etc). Many thanks in advance.

You will need to remove all the flaking/ bubbling areas of painted areas,if the original painted area is in sound condition you can then apply a coat of stabilising solution to the whole area, once dried 2-3 coats of a good quality masonry paint will solve the problem,

I also suggest to check a guttering cause it looks like there is some leak. First of all try to solve a source of the problem and then do exactly what previous colleague said. Good luck :)
