Hello, we are getting some repairs done at home, like moving a couple of sockets, changing a pendant light an relocating an original light switch from one wall to the next wall ( a door frame between the wall. My question is will I need a certificate for the work done and every time I get electrical work done? and how can I check if the electrician is registered? I'm having the work done by someone from my builder. We'll need to rent or sell the property in less than a year and Im thinking if I ll need certifications for the work. Thank you
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Hi, yes the work will need a certificate, especially if your thinking of renting and you can check there registration on the NICEIC and NAPIT websites.

HI I AGREE WITH WHAT TD ELECTRICAL SAID ABOUT NEEDING PAPERWORK FOR RENTING BUT FOR SPURING OFF AND MOVING SOCKETS PROVIDED THAT THE BUILDER IS PART P COMPETENT THEN HE/SHE DOES NOT NEED TO BE A PART P ELECTRICIAN KIND REGARDS DAVID
Yes moving sockets is notifiable work. If you are adapting wiring on a ring circuit then that is notifiable. Moving a light switch is also notifiable. Just ask for the electricians credentials like who they are registered with and at what address. You should be able to look it up on the website. I am with the NICEIC. They don't issue ID cards so the client needs to look up my details on the NICEIC website. If you are planning on renting then the best step to take is to have an Electrical Installation Condition Report done which will highlight any problems with the installation which need to be corrected. Get them corrected and you are good to go!
