Should walls be painted before or after laying new wood flooring?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.02 PM

We're looking to lay an engineered wood floor in our flat shortly (we currently have carpet), and are having difficulty deciding if we should paint the walls & ceilings before or after it goes down. I can see the benefits of either approach - but is there a standard order of doing things? Its the skirting boards in particular that are giving me pause...

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Idealy your last coat should be afrer floor is laid as some scuffing/marking will appear. However, if you are doing the job yourself and are confident marking will be minimal and easily cleaned, paint 1st. Hope this helps

I would always leave the last coat of then if any marks or damage is done can be sorted before final coat, always use a low tack tape to tape wooden floor when doing skirtings.

Personally I'd fit the floor first
