Can you recondition an old gas boiler?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.19 PM

There is a Potteron Flamingo RS50S installed in the house that i live in currently and it failed it Gas Safety check that was performed on it last week. It had not been serviced in at least 10 years. There is leaking from the internal pipes with limescale buildup on many of the parts and the combustion gas analysis should worrying readings. My landlord has been getting quotes to have it replaced either with a combi or conventional boiler however I have now been told he is also asking the engineers to give him a quote to just repair and recondition the boiler. Firstly is it possible to do this and secondly is it a good idea to try and recondition an old gas boiler which was installed 20-30 years ago.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

All depends on the age of the boiler, and if parts are still availbe ,I personally would not attempt to fix..new boiler would be my recommendation

Depend if the parts are available.if the parts are obsolete then the landlord has no choice to replace the boiler.

Most parts for that particular boiler are now obsolete, you can get the basics but the heat exchanger connectors would be difficult to source now, by the sound of the problems you have though the boiler could simply be serviced correctly and the leaks can be repaired by draining the boiler and cleaning the brass fittings. This would only be possible providing burners etc are all intact. Kind regards Mat
