bath tap only luke warm but kitchen tap red hot
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.19 PM
Hi I have an issue with our hot water system, we have a ariston micro genus 2 combi boiler installed in our kitchen which leads onto our bathroom. The kitchen hot tap gets red hot but if we run the bath tap it only gets luke warm. I have had the bath panel off and can see no sign of a thermal mixer valve so i am a little stumped as to what the matter is.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi will eve
This sounds like it could be the plate heat exchanger inside the boiler. The flow rate from your kitchen sink is slower then from your bath which allows the heat transfer to happen slower try running the bath tap slowly and see if your water gets to a higher temperature if it does this proves that your plate heat exchanger will need changing.
All the best

Don't put all eggs into one basket on it being the plate heat exchanger. Bare in mind that if you have a seized diverter valve it could mean that all your required heat is by passing to your radiators. To test this whilst running a bath and your heating system (radiators) are cold. Are you finding any of them heating up without heating in demand.
