Why is water STILL getting through and WHERE is it coming from ?!

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.02 PM

The tiles in my sons bathroom have just fallen off! He has had this wall tiled 5 times by 5 DIFFERENT people and water is still penetrating through the tiles from the shower. He has also had the whole area re plastered as it transpired the wrong mix of cement had been used when it had been plastered before the first tiling. It has all been checked by tow independent people and there is no leakage from the bath or the plumbing and there are no pipes outside (there are two outside walls). The adhesive and the wall was soaking. After 3 days the plaster is now completely sound and in tact, and has dried out completely. However my son can't afford to keep having it re tiled over and over again. Can anyone suggest what the problem could possibly be causing this? Could it be the cheap Wickes tiles? Although they have done these tiles for years and still do so surely other people would have complained? We are DESPERATE!!

Did any of the tilers use a tanking system before tiling? Ideally a 2 part tanking is painted on the surface to be tiled. It's rubber based so if correctly applied provides a water proof barrier. Having said that i'm not sure why it would be leaking through the tiles so badly as grout should stop nearly all water getting through.

Are the tiles that have been used a travertine tile, if so this is porous and could be the reason you are having issues. Worth a check.
