can I use old emulsion with water on plaster before painting walls with top coat of emulsion

Can I use old emulsion paint with water on new plaster before putting top coat of emulsion on walls.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

make sure it is vinyl matt emulsion and watered down so it sinks into the plaster. Then two coats on top for a good finish

As long as it’s not silk then yes. Water it down 70% paint 30% water and give it a really good mix, if it’s old you will want to strain it through some old tights or cheese cloth to remove any lumps etc. if it’s very old paint and it smells then the room you paint will smell for a few weeks, but won’t cause a problem.
