Bathroom Fitting

Fitting a bathroom upstairs at the other side of a house

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.38 PM

Hi all We are looking to buy a property in Cheshunt and we would ideally like to put a new bathroom, with a bath, in the L-shape space in the biggest bedroom upstairs. The only issue is that this would be to the left of the property and the downstairs bathroom is to the right, although they are both at the back of the house. There is also a boiler, sink and washing machine below the bathroom though. The other slight complication is that there is a wide window and radiator in the bedroom, which would cut into the space of the new bathroom, so these would need to be dealt with in some way. We need to be sure this is possible and not going to cost a total fortune before we go ahead with buying the house. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Hi A new bathroom most likely requires planning permission therefore the first step would be to inquire in this regards with the local authority (http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/1app/maps_plans_and_planning_apps.pdf) Being fitted at the house back side is quite convenient specially because you'll have C/H water supply and drainage from just underneath. Regarding that window and in compliment to the first question you would be better off looking at measuring everything and draw a plan as moving or even decommissioning a window also requires permission. Heater is not an issue as it can be moved accordingly/added/removed. Hope it helps, happy to help where needed. The Handyman On Demand
