Chminey breast in need of repairs to brickwork
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.53 PM
I recently bought a 1st floor maisonette which has several fireplaces, each looking like they have been used at some point. A couple have tiled facades and I hope to remove these and create an alcove space for a woodburning stove. Which tradesman would take on this work? A general builder, a bricklayer, a stonemason or a chimney sweep? I'm unsure who to contact! The other fireplace directly above this fireplace has been blocked up - is it still ok to have this as a decorative fire place even though attached to the same flue? Or will it need to be blocked up? Thanks in advance for replies!
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi I am a Hetas installer in the oxfordshire area and would happily advise you on this.
firstly the one in floor above will have nothing to do with the flue you wish to use as it should dog leg around the upstairs chimney as each flue is independent.
so to answer your questions a Hetas member is needed to sign off installation and you should be ok with upstairs staying blocked so you can stand some nice flowers in front.
as for opening up it is a service i provide and reline with a cement board to give a smooth surface or you can have the natural brick look.
Kind Regards
