Carpets, Lino & Flooring

Paid for materials (deposit) and fitting was due over a week ago- no answer on phone or email

For some reason I can't see details of this flooring specialist on my orders. I originally got him to do some carpet. Then he quoted competitively against flooring direct for some engineered oak. I paid him approximately £800 for materials with a promise of the outstanding amount on the quote, for labour, on completion. He was meant to install on Tuesday last week but called to say there'd been an accident in the family when on skiing holiday so he'd have to delay til Monday (although he could get friends to do it, but we said we'd prefer him so no one could pass the buck at any stage). On Sunday he confirmed by SMS that he would be OK for Monday. He never showed up and he doesn't answer his phone or emails and usually his phone is off. What can I do? The address on his invoice only leads me to a group of buildings/a block of flats. It's really screwed up being able to finish the job, I'm really upset because I trusted him, and I really don't know what to do. I can't find details of his company online. Please advise? Thanks so much in advance!

really sorry to hear about this, that is bang out of order off anyone especially if you've payed all that money upfront did you get a receipt for the money you put up front, it dose sound like you've been had, the first point of call would be to contact trading standards (google search "Trading Standards") to find your local number they will be able to give you all the advice on the correct course of action,
