What to do when a self levelling floor isn't level?
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.41 PM
We have been having our kitchen refurbished, and the builder layed a self levelling laytex over a perfect terrazzo floor. The laytex flooring isn't level, so the skirting boards aren't flush in places, the cupboards don't touch the floor and so on. Any ideas on how to correct this as we now wish to tile the floor ourselves? Thanks.

hi,providing the builder applied the screed correct,ie if they used a water based screed, which they tend to they should have primed the floor first, your best bet would be to get a floorlayer in and put another coat of screed down, this should typicaly be 3-5 mm thick,we would generally use a latex based screed not a water based,

It sounds to me as though the builder has followed the level of the existing floor rather than levelling it all over. Really, it will need to be done again, personnaly I would use a 6ft spirit level to work out which areas are worse than others then work from there,
Many thanks, Ben Buckwell
