Can i put hardcore on concrete to rasie a level?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.40 PM
I have an old patio, split over 2 levels. I want to raise half to bring it all up to level, and then lay new slabs over the whole lot, to have a new, one-level patio in indian stone. is it possible to put hardcore onto the existing patio to raise the level, or do i have to dig it out. If so, why? I allways like to understand why I am doing somehting! many thanks.

It all depends how and what you use as hardcore and how you compact it .
It must also be contained,if it's not going to spread I would recommend part hardcore and part leanmix fill , this would cut cost but also you would laying your slabs on a sounder base .....bob

You can leave the existing slabs down, but put a hammer through them first.
Add type 1 mot to desired level and give it a good whacking.
Lay the slabs on full bed of sand/cement.

Hi there,
What I would normally do is lay some more wet concrete on top of the old concrete that will bond with whats underneath, I wouldn't put hardcore done on top of concrete base as when laying the slabs on top it would cause them to move about still. Bette to be safe than sorry.
Hope this helps
Thanks
Chris
