laying wood floor in an old tiled kitchen

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.19 PM

the house was built 1903 , the front has lovely floorboards but the whole back ( the servants bit about 100sqm 3 rooms and a small hall) has these nasty terracotta and black chequered tiles that are worn out. there is a cellar under some of it but the house is built into a hill so not sure there are joists under all. is it possible to lay a real wood floor, would i have to lay a new subfloor or just lift the tiles? these tiles are level with the wood floor at the front of the house.

It sounds like You would need to just install a fibreboard underlay prior to fitting the wooden floor
