gypsum mixed with paint, good idea for cracked and uneven walls?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.37 PM

We have just stripped the wallpaper from our bedroom walls. One wall had textured wallpaper on years ago and we can see the outlines of the pattern. The walls very uneven and patchy, and still got loads of paste on it. After washing the walls with sugarsoap and sanding them down I still think the wall is going to look pretty poor. An old builder friend suggested mixing gypsum with white paint to make a thick paste like paint. He said to roll it onto the walls in sections and sand down once dry. Has anyone done this before? I've also herd that no matter how much we clean the wallpaper paste off the plaster will have absorbed some which will affect the finished paint eventually. How can we prep and paint our walls without resorting to skimming? Thanks

hi, my solution to this is to use easi fill made by gyproc. its a powdered filler which comes in 5kg or 10 kg bags, mix with water to a smooth consistency the apply with a caulking tool, once dry then rub down with 80 grade sand paper, followed by painting. caulking tools can be found at brewers or any other good trade paint store. hope this helps
