How to cover leakage stain on ceiling?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

there seems to be some leakage on the ceiling of my living room which is directly below my second floor bathroom. I tried to use those paint for ceiling left by my builder. It covers the stains for a bit, however when it's dried the stain comes back. Just wondering if there is special paint or other product to use to cover the stain?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, Sounds like your using emulsion paint to cover the stain. The stain is water based and the new paint your using is water based therefore the stain soaks through. Your should use firstly a STAIN BLOCKER first. Easiest to use is a spray can version, one coat best two drying in approx 15mins each coat. Otherwise use a solvent (oil) based undercoat first allow to dry and then apply emulsion.

I use Zinser BIN for these problems, it never lets me down where stains are concerned. It's quite expensive to buy for a one off job, but if all else fails I highly recommend it.
