using X-Tex to remove artex

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.18 PM

Hi there, I don't want to reboard (makes the room smaller, coving etc) I don't want to replaster (expensive), but have seen X Tex, paint on, scrap off, no dust, no harmful chemicals etc. But how well does it work? How good a surface do you end up with for painting? Would I need to use a bonding agent after using X-Tex and before painting?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I always call in a plasterer as some artex can contain asbestos depending on age . It can be removed by a steamer but if painted over with PVA adhesive prior to plastering you will end up with a good finish that will last. If the artex is not very rough it will only need a skim coat. To paint the fresh plaster once fully dry you should cover with a thin watered down misting coat to prime followed by two coats of quality emulsion fot a top finish . Bite the bullet & spend the cash for a lasting job

Hi, totally agree with your first reply, unibond and plaster skim it, its quicker safer and will give you a top finish, you could spend ages trying to get it off and its messy then to find the ceiling isn't that great any way , cheers david
