Concrete floor bulging

Hi We are looking into buying a semi detached bungalow which was built late 1920s and is constructed from concrete. In two of the rooms there is a noticeable bulge in the concrete floor which feels hard. There is also slight bulging in another room too. We are wondering what the likely cause of this is, and what it might cost to fix such a problem so that we can go back to the vendor to negotiate a sale price. The surveyor noted the bulge but has not said why or how we can improve it. Thanks for your help!

Hi,
Without seeing the problem, the accuracy of this answer is questionable. However:
Typically you would find that the reason for such bulging is that a relatively thin concrete oversize was laid on bare earth, eventually water under the concrete pushes it upwards creating bulges.
Usual solution is to remove the oversize - dig out the area and install a new concrete floor with a more modern build up. Whilst doing this it is also prudent to check details such as damp proofing of the external walls.
