remove hot water dead leg?

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.53 PM

Hi there, I'm considering having an electric shower installed. The previous shower was a mixer one (run from an immersion heater), so the hot water pipework to this would become redundant once the new electric one is installed I've not checked under the floorboards, but as the shower sits between the immersion heater and bath taps then I'd estimate this hot water dead leg to be up to a metre or so in height off the feed pipe to the bath, using a standard 12mm copper pipe. I wanted to ask if this needs to be removed from a legionella point of view, and if so how short it needs to be. Without seeing the pipework it's possible the bathroom sink basin and downstairs kitchen sink might also join to this, as the shower hot water pipe sits closest, though I could be wrong. Obviously I want to be safe if necessary, but at the same time avoid undue costs if required. Any advice most appreciated Many thanks Mark

I think dead legs used to be ok if it was a max of twice the pipe diameter, eg a 15mm pipe with a 30mm dead leg although i would always cut it out if possible. Need to make sure its only cutting supply off to what you want tho.

dead legs can be no longer than 100mm you should find where this pipe is and cut it off
