How to plumb to have hot towel rails in summer

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.37 PM

Hi there, Please advise. We would like to have towel rails hot in summer. My understanding was: towel rails have to be connected to a boiler's hot water outlet that provides water for showers etc (not the one that gives hot water for radiators in the rooms). I searched a bit and it seems it is only an option when we have a hot water cylinder with our boiler. But, we do not. We have Baxi boiler and it is not connected to any cylinders. What can we do? Is it a good idea still have towel rails on hot water for showers outlet? Or shall we invest in electric heating for towel rails? Thank you, Kateryna

Hi Kateryna, It sounds like you have a combi boiler which heats the hot water up on demand. The best solution as you won't have a hot water cylinder is to install an electric element which you could switch on in the summer. To do this you would need a plumber to install the electrical element in the towel rail and then have an electrician to connect a supply. Hope this helps.

If you have a combi boiler and not a system boiler with cylinder your only option is to connect it to your central heating system. you can put a 2 port valve and have the boiler serve the 1 radiator but it is quite complicated process and would be time consuming. Guess what i am saying is it would be expensive to do for what seems to be little gain but it would be up to you weather it is worth it or not. in the interest of simplicity and cost effectiveness i would install electric towel rads with a timer. cheers exceeding expectations

Look into dual fuel towel rails. If you already have a towel rail you could probably have a dual fuel element fitted. Best have the electrical connections done by a registered electrician as works are in bathroom.
