Roofing

Which is best for a flat roof

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

I have to have a new flat roof. I have had 3 quotes from 3 roofers who have each recommended a different system to replace my roof - felt, rubber and fibreglass. As I know nothing about roof replacement I am now confused about which is best - can anyone help

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Each system is usually only as good as the installer. The devil is in the detailing - get that wrong and the roof can fail. Choose wisely, read tradesmen reviews. By far GRP (fibreglass) is the best product, it can be shaped for curve, ideal for balconies and roof lights. Generally comes with a 25 year guarantee and comes in any colour, we have just fitted one in British racing green.... EPDM - is a good alternative and quicker to install, hence cheeper. Some rubbers come now with a 30yr guarantee. Fleece backed can be used on walkways. Felt - is old hat - I would avoid this unless your budget is tight. That said we fitted a warm GRP roof late last year cheeper than a local felt roofers quote. Hope this helps Drew @ Fibretechs - GRP & EPDM flat roofers - Gloucestershire
