extension flat roof ceiling raising in cold weather
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.18 PM
Hi, we have a flat roof on our front porch extension, and in the winter months part of the ceiling plaster board raises away from the internal brick wall, leaving a 2-3mm gap, when the weather warms up the ceiling drops back into place. Can someone tell me what is causing this? Thank you

Check to see if it's not the porch (walls/floor) not rising due to an active up thrust on poor/inadequate footings, which then settles down in the summer when the ground is drier (clay)?
Perhaps - long shot - water absorbing into the timber deck in the winter causing swelling of the deck which in turn pulls up on the joists.....then dries in the summer and settles back down....
Difficult without seeing it, I am afraid
