Older Terraced House - Roof Joists
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.36 PM
My house was built in the 1890s, and the joists in the roof space are not one continuous run. Effectively I have the rafters, which the joists affix on to (and support the ceiling below), but the joists are not full width, ie they dont make a complete "A" frame with the rafters. They are supported in the centre of the loft space on a load bearing wall, with a 6cm gap between them. Ive had the slate replaced with tiles, and wonder if I should look to placing metal securing ties between each of the joists - mainly for my own peace of mind. Suggestions welcome.
