Remove Fitted Wardrobes?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.36 PM
Hi Have some old fitted wardrobes, panelled ones, as they're quite old I can't really understand where to remove or unscrew from. Any suggestions or how to go about this? I am trying to find someone to do the job as I need them gone ASAP ! But wondering if I could try myself in the meantime. Many thanks!!

If in doubt, give it a clout, if you have little diy experience you may not know what difference to feel for, cut through the middle of the uprights, ram a crowbar behind and pull, then bar out everything else, you can do all that yourself, this is the quickest way, raking out fillers takes ages and there will always be one screw missed, making your life difficult... Just go mad, there's always filling and painting to be done anyway.

Hello lily_60,
The wardrobes may be fixed to the wall with countersunk screws. Basically a 'V' shaped drill bit widens a space into the timber but still leaves a hole the same size as the diameter of the shaft of the screw. This hides the screw head. After the wardrobes were fitted in place filler is put in to cover the metal screw heads giving a flush finish with invisible fixings. Run your hand along the surfaces that are fixed to the walls if you feel a difference in surface that is where the screws are likely to be. You can remove the filler with an old thin screw driver to get to the screw head. Get enough filler out to get a decent grip with the right screwdriver, either a cross haired or flat head and then unscrew all of the fixing screws - if this guess is right your fitted wardrobe will come apart with some effort.
Good luck
Oliver
