Placing ply wood on kitchen floor

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

I'm getting a new kitchen so I'm away to lift the tiles up. Then came across that the previous owner tiled on top of the floor boards when he should of put down ply wood. Can you put ply wood straight on top of the tile adhesive that's already down

No reputable tiler would tile onto ply nowadays, so many better products available now. You will find many plumbers, carpenters, handyman and bob a jobers say its ok, but when it go we wrong they are nowhere to be found. So, your best approach is, remove any loose adhesive, self level the floor with a suitable product for wood. Now lay and fix 6mm HardieBacker as per there instructions found on there website. This will give you a solid, moisture resistant, mould resistant floor ready for tiles. Julian
