Water coming down chimney breast

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

I have water trickling down my chimney breast when it rains which forms into a puddle in my loft. I had the lead work replaced a few months ago but its still occuring. The water trickle leaves a slatey grey stain when it trickles down as if its passing the lead, do you think i need 2 get the lead work checked out?? Or look for another source of leak?? Many thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi there, To eliminate all the potential issues with the chimney there is a number of things that should be addressed, it's best to eliminate all potential causes while addressing the issue, the roofer who replaced your lead work should of explained this, the issues consist of ; Lead (Front apron, step flashing, back gutter), Brickwork or render should be sealed (mortar and water sealing), chimney cowls and flaunching. Hopefully for yourself the chimney may just need water sealing but never the less still an inconvenience. Hope this helps. Regards Gavin Oscell Limited

if you can visibly see water running down the outside of the stack from inside the loft space then it is most definitely the leadwork that has failed however it could be a broken slate or roof tile.
