cutting into joists
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.01 PM
Hi, Im looking at replacing my bath for a shower and I'm looking at rerouting the 1"1/2 drain pipe which will require notching out the joists which are 2"x7".Is this acceptable.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes, just make sure you go through the center of the joist, prevents any screws punching through from above or below

HI
DONT do that as it could compromise the strength of your joists you are cutting too much out of at small joist why don't you raise the shower up or drill through ceiling downstairs and box the pipe in or you could fit a saniflow pump to pump out the waste water the same route as your bath was already kind regards Dave
