I am currently fitting underfloor heating pipes on 75mm kingspan between joists on two floors. Is it vital that I screed these pipes?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

I have braced the joists with 12mm plywood and 75mm kingspan, leaving a 50mm gap for heating pipes, between the top of kingspan and the floorboarding. what would be the loss of efficiency If I just placed the pipes and boarded the floor out without screeding ?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If there is an air gap between the pipes and the flooring it is advisable to screed between the space to ensure the system works efficiently. Hope this helps

no you dont have to screed, screeding is usually carried when pipework is laid on solid floors.there is also easier ways of laying pipework other than between joists but thats another story hope this helps

Hello. Yes the air gap needs to be filled so the heat transfers into the room rather than heating up the gap losing most of the heating efficiency. Regards Chris
