Is it ok to paint bitumen onto lead roof

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

I had a leak from roof hired a ''roofer'' who I've since found out painted over lead roof with bitumen. leak has got worse and is now costing £2000 + to sort out properly is it normal practice?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It depends on what was agreed between you and the said roofer. I would interpret painting bitumen onto a lead roof as a temporary fix during poor weather with a quote for a permanent repair to follow.

As stated abovefrom fibretechs it really depends on what you and your roofer agreed but no bitumen paints don't tend to work it should have been acrylpol which is a liquid rubber paint bonded with fibres and is proven to work as the fibres bridge the splits and holes size depending obviously but again as fibretechs stated is a temporary fix.
