varnish pre-painted wood

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.00 PM

Hi, I am just going to paint my white wood to look like a real oak wood. The door is oak i need to change the colour of the frame from white to oak. Is there any paint I can use over pre-painted wood to make it like oak? Thanks

Hi...Give the white wood a coat of oil based undercoat thinned down with 20% white spirit. On top of the dried undercoat buy some water based stain...light oak, medium oak etc, depending on finish required. And apply with stain brush, again to the desired colour. Dont worry 1st coat will make you think this cant work. Once desired stain has been reached.seal with a solvent based clear varnish...gloss, satin etc..hope this helps...Phil Brown
