Dulux wood primer won't dry on my skirting boards

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

I have just had layers of paint stripped from skirtings and door frames with a burner tool and then rubbed down. Two days ago I applied Dulux trade wood primer (planning to then do two coats of satinwood). The problem I have is that the primer still isn't dry - tacky and actually coming off on my finger. Why has this happened and what can I do? - I have the floors in the rooms booked to be sanded in three days and am worried about the dust sticking. Will it dry (heating on, windows open) with patience, or do I have a problem which means it needs to come off (which will be a nightmare) - how do I do that if needs be please

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Dulux do 2 types of wood primer. Acrylic Primer which is water based and a solvent based primer.Solvent based can be white or pink. 100% certain you have used the solvent based. The water based is dry and re-coatable in 2 hours. It should dry by the time the floors need sanding. If skirting still tacky buy some paint dryers and mix with primer and re-coat this should aid the drying time. Hope this helps.

If is not dry after 6 hours than is likely you have some sort of moist coming through to the skirting board. All sorts of primer and undercoats should be touch dry after 6 hours.
