Fitting of a new front door

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.18 PM

hi - how does measuring and fitting a new wooden front door and sidelight work. As an example, I have an opening of a porch that is in the process of being built - there's an opening of c,1700mm, there's a door and sidelight i have my eye on from todd doors- if the width os slightlyless than 1700mm, how much of a problem is this - what can a builder use to fill in this gap. I dont really want a made to measure as i expect it will be significantly more expensive and will price me out of a nice wooden door. Thoughts please.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Good morning, If the door is slightly narrower than the opening then this is no problem for a joiner, the opening would simply be adjusted to the door using timber. Where there is a will, there is a way, JB

It all depends on how much narrower the frame & sidelight are . When you say that your porch is being built what is the construction ? if its blockwork normally you fit the frame and the reveals get rendered on the front & plastered on the back so you could get away with 30mm narrower . Pack sides of frame and then fill with foam . What does your builder ( doing the porch ) say ?
