Upstairs lights have gone off but the fuse box has not tripped

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

I turned the bathroom light on, which is also connected to an extractor fan, and the light flickered and cut out. 2 of the 3 bedroom lights and the landing light also went out. I checked the fuse box expecting to find that it had tripped but it has not. Tried turning it off and back on but no joy. Any ideas?

All the lights are on one circuit and the live and neutral hop from one circuit to the next (loop in loop out). If the bathroom light is at the start of the circuit, the 2 bedrooms and the landing lights are reliant upon it. Therefore there may be a loose connection in the live or neutral in the bathroom pull cord switch. You did mention that 1 bedroom light was still working. Perhaps the bathroom pull cord switch connection to the working bedroom is still a good connection. You need to check that the power is off and then open up the bathroom light switch and check for a loose connection or a loose screw. This is what I'd do first. Regards

Hi there, I think you will find you have a loose connection in the bathroom light switch.

Will be a loose connection either in the light in bathroom or in bedroom depends how it been wired Could be in the light switches depends if it’s been wired for a pendant then only one cable goes to light switch and would have no effect on the other lights working
