fridge and electric hobs wired together in a plug?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.18 PM

ive just moved into a studio and the sink, draining board, fridge and 2 hobs are one unit. The vent for the fridge is at the back of the draining and hobs, im a bit worried about water from the draining board going down the vent as there isnt anything to really stop the water from doing so. The hobs and the fridge are wired together with the same plug, is that safe? and isnt the hobs being above the fridge going to cause mold and other contamination? whenever i try to use the large hob the fuse blows and i have to reset the fuse box, the same happens when i try to use the small one on 1 or 6, why does that keep happening?

Hi , Your are correct this Fridge and the hob really shouldn't be wired into the same plug top and isn't ideal the only good thing is it has a fuse. The Hob usually should be hard wired from the Fuse box also known as the consumer unit with its own dedicated supply. The ventilation grill is there to allow the fridge to breath as fridges have a compressor on them that should have access to air. The only thing you could do is get rid of the vent above the work top and install one in the kick board. Hope this Helps. Sam

Sounds a bit of a hazard , if I read correctly..... A plug is for a single appliance only to enable safe isolation of the product and if you are only having to reset on 1 or 6 sound as if the unit is faulty especially if working on 2,3,4 &5. Electrician required. Not an expert but vent for fridge should be near the compressor but obviously not in a location where it could directly ingress water. Hope this helps
