Raising a driveway

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

Hi all, not sure which tradesperson would be most suitable to engage with for this question, but here goes. Just moved into a new house (new to me, but built in 1950's) and doing some renovations internally. Externally, my wife and I have decided that the current driveway is way too steep and we need to do something about it. My thoughts would be that we combine it with some work to lay some drainage channels in front of the house wall anyway, but not sure how to go about reducing the steep angle of the drive. My idea would be to use gabbions with some kind of retaining wall (concrete?) behind that can take the weight of a family car (Focus size). Alternatively, some concrete or steel piers at the end of the drive to raise the bottom part up. Anyone else have have any ideas how to do this? Additionally, what tradesperson would do this kind of work? Thanks in advance.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi There, Best way is to raise it at the bottom with a strong retaining wall. You'll also have to have a retaining wall on each side as well. Make sure you have drainage holes in the walls so excess water can escape. put an Aco drain along the house wall that is 2 full house bricks below DPC. Regards Ivan.
