Electrical

Electrics in Airing Cupboard

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

I have a small bathroom with the airing cupboard door just outside the bathroom door in a short corridor leading to the landing. I would like to move the bathroom door to the end of this short corridor, this will mean the airing cupboard door is in the bathroom. I note from looking at info re installing a shower pump that if the pump is in the bathroom it has to be installed so it is inacessible other than with a tool, I assume I can get around this by installing the pump in the loft above the airing cupboard, taking care that it doesn't freeze or overheat. But what about all the electrics in the airing cupboard, which will now be in the bathroom and accessible through a standard door with a door handle, if I screw up the door so it's not accessible it's no use as an airing cupboard. Inside the airing cupboard is the central heating pump, three way diverter valve, immersion heater, ACL Lifestyle wiring centre and cylinder stat. Will this then be in breach of the regs? If so there is enough space at the top of the cupboard above the top of the door to move the central heating pump, three way diverter valve, ACL Lifestyle wiring centre and then box it in so it's inacessible. However the immersion heater and cylinder stat will be in the lower acessible part of the cupboard, is that OK.

We now work on Zones not just bathroom so the position of the door in relation to the bath will be relevant. If outside zones but still within 3mtrs of bath/shower then no socket outlets, instead use switch fused connection units. If within zones a lock on the door will satisfy regulations (belt and braces-safety notice inside cupboard saying cupboard to be kept locked at all times)
