Do you need planning permission to build a cellar under a workshop if building regs are followed?

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.40 PM

I am renovating a workshop in a field and wondered if this was necessary since it wouldn't be seen.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Ask your local planning office, but I would say as there would be no visible signs outside and no additional floorspace created at ground level then no. Also check out the planning portal. There is an interactive guide on there which will tell you more.

The answer to your question is no, a building notice will need to be submitted. We specilise in basement conversions and deal with these issues regularly,
