Concrete roof slab fixings

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.00 PM

I have a flat, with a concrete slab forming the ceiling and flat roof and floor, on the outside covered in felt and stone. Inside the ceiling had a type of foam board glue on then skimmed over. The whole place requires a full rewire, the original 60's wiring is in the concrete, I think I am correct in saying that the ceiling cannot be chased out and assume a false/dropped ceiling seem to be the best solution. I see how a timber frame around the walls and can be fixed to support the 3x2" ceiling grid frame (to be plaster boarded) but how can the frame be supported/suspended in the middle if making fixings into the concrete ceiling would weaken the roof. The biggest area is 4.7m X 3.7m. I do not know how thick the roof slab is?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You are on the right path proposing a suspended ceiling. For such a large span of flat concrete, it would most certainly be reinforced. Installing a few drop rods around area to hold up just your suspended ceiling and associated brackets shouldn't be a problem. Naturally your fixings to the underside of the concrete must not puncture through externally and above to the felt layer.
