Plumbing

boiler leaks when no water used in home

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.53 PM

I have a combi boiler with a heating cylinder and a hot water cylinder. We left on a holiday without leaks. I kept the boiler on for heating and hot water to minimal (about hour a day) while I was away. I come back to a water leak and before I could call someone in, the leak has gone, after we started to use the house taps, kitchen, bathroom etc. Basically as soon as the water usage started in the house, the leak stopped. Also there are no issues with central heating or hot water while the leak was on and after the leak has stopped, still all ok with heating and hot water. Any one knows what is happening and what do I need to do ? so that it does not recur ?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

trying to suss out the system you have from your description as it sounds a bit muddled, i think you may have a system boiler? with a storage cisterns in loft? and a hot water cylinder for stored hot water? the only thing i can think of is while you have been away the cold water storage has a slow drip on the ballcock causing the cistern/cisterns to over flow when not in use for a length of time...? but without seeing the system you have and without you showing me exactly where the leak occurred and near which appliance/fitting/room etc i obviously can't identify where the leak is from exactly and this is just a educated guess going off your description? hope this helps regards Matthew @ MLS Plumbing Solutions
