Damp Proofing

Mechanical Heat Recovery of Positive Input ventilation System

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.35 PM

There is an issue of condensation and mould in a one bedroom lower ground floor flat in the bedroom and lounge (built in early 1900s). We have a continuous extractor in the bathroom. The mould and condensation are largely behind furniture and beds and on the external walls / fireplaces. Would a mechanical heat recovery extract or positive ventilation system (e.g. flatmaster 2000) be a better solution to get rid of the mould, condensation, damp smell and why one or the other? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hi, The property is likely to have been renovated at some point and may have had fireplaces blocked and original windows replaced with double glazed units both of which would have allowed some air leakage and escape fro moisture etc. You might just need to fit some passive dehumidifiers to allow water vapour to escape gradually but you should also check external walls for signs of water ingress from blocked drains, gutters and bridged damp-proof course as any penetrating dampness will dry internally and create high humidity levels leading to condensation and mould growth. I hope this helps but if you need any more advice please get in touch. Regards Paul Wydean Damp & Mould Control
